This article explores the geography and facts of one of the islands and a constituent country in the Kingdom of Netherlands that is located in the Southern Caribbean Sea which is Aruba. The capital of Aruba is Oranjestad. This country comprises a variety of ethnic groups such as Aruban, Dutch, Venezuelan and also Haitian. The official languages of Aruba are Dutch as well as Papiamento. Approximately 1000 km on the west of Lesser Antilles, Aruba is located. Similarly, it is approximately 29 km in the north of Venezuela. Aruba is not divided into any administrative units on purpose but according to the census, it is divided into eight regions.

Landscape

Aruba is defined as a flat land that is located in the southern part of the Caribbean. It is known as a river-less island that is characterised by white sandy beaches on both the southern as well as the western coasts. Also, they are protected from severe ocean currents therefore, this place is considered to be suitable for the population to live. Moreover, a lot of tourism developments have been brought in this area. Since the eastern and the northern coasts are exposed to the ocean currents and are vulnerable to be affected by them, therefore, there is very little or no population in these parts as they lack the protection from ocean currents.

Climate

The country is characterised by a tropical climate that is hot throughout the year. The average temperature that is recorded during day time is approximately 29 to 31 degrees Celsius. The air is very humid during the day time but the blowing wind controls the humidity in the air. The western and southern side of the country are protected from the severe ocean currents therefore, they are not vulnerable to any sort of danger or disaster but since the northern and eastern side of the country experiences severe oceanic currents, the wind here blows at a faster speed. Rain throughout the year in Aruba is relatively low which is approximately 500 mm in the entire year.

Rainfall

The rainy season or the months when the level of precipitation is slightly higher is between October to December and the level of precipitation at that time is approximately 75 to 90 mm per month. On the other hand, the months that are counted as the driest months are from March to May because, at this time of the year, the level of rainfall is even less than 10 to 15 mm per month. Since Aruba is flat land, there are chances of the scarcity of water at certain times.

Temperature and Sunlight

Other than that, the amount of sunlight that the country has to experience is also sufficient. The average number of hours that the different areas receive the sunlight is 8. The sea in Aruba is normally warm because of the sunlight that the country receives. Therefore, the water in the sea is ideal for people to swim throughout the year. The temperature of water from January to April is approximately 26 degrees Celsius and the temperature of water in October is around 29 degrees celsius. If you are looking for a place that has a moderate temperature throughout the year that does not create a hurdle in performing different activities and outdoor sports, then Aruba is the best place to visit.

Aruba Flag

Aruba FlagImportance of flags in general

The flag of a particular country is of increasing significance for the country and its people because of the respect and the standard that is given to the flag. A flag is for the identification of a country. This is because it is based on the flag that the names of the two countries can be distinguished. Every country has a unique flag and that is why it serves as a source of its identification and also its recognition. Even the people of each country consider themselves equally attached to the flag because they believe that they are being recognised by this particular flag. Also, the symbols and the colours on the flag are representative and symbolic of the features of the country.

The appearance of the flag

The national flag of Aruba is described as a flag that has a completely light blue background. There are two horizontal stripes of the colour orange at the bottom of the flag. Along with this, there is a white star that has four pointed edges and is coloured in red. It is placed in the top left corner of the flag. The different colours of the flag are symbolic of different things and also represent them in different ways.

Symbolism and Representation

The blue colour in the flag of Aruba represents the clear sky or the sea. It also represents peace, hope, the future of Aruba and also the connections that it has with the past. The orange horizontal stripes represent two different things. One of the strips symbolises a movement towards an independent sovereign country that is not dependent on anyone or is not an administrative region but is an independent country. While the second horizontal line symbolises industry and the resources that the country acquired in the past such as the gold and the phosphates. The star in the flag can be interpreted in a variety of ways, for instance, it can be seen as the island that consists of red soil which is the colour red and the white sides show the white sandy beaches on the borders of the soil.

Another interpretation is that the four sides of the star shows the different countries from which the people of Aruba have originated. Therefore, it shows the countries of origin of these people. Other than this, it can also be interpreted that the red colour shows the blood that has been spilled of the people of Aruba for the protection of their country. It can be defined as the contributions that have been made by the people of Aruba while on the other hand, the white colour can represent the purity and innocence of the people of Aruba. Other than this, it can also symbolise the white, sandy beaches of Aruba.

Aruba is known for the scenic tourist locations that it has to offer. These beautiful spots comprise of the blonde beaches, adventurous desert landscapes as well as the experience of dining in the Caribbean. The beautiful locations and the fine weather that Aruba has to offer attracts dozens of tourists. Other than this, another advantage that only Aruba has to offer is that since it is located in the far south of the Caribbean, it remains protected from intense hurricanes. This means that Aruba is a safe place to hang out with friends and family without any fear of the occurrence of natural events. Also, outdoor activities and water sports can be accessed easily.

Beaches

There are a variety of dazzling beaches in Aruba such as Druif Beach, Palm Beach, Eagle Beach and many more of a similar kind. They offer a range of activities to the visitors whether they are the residents of Aruba or tourists from all over the world. Some of these beaches are great for swimming as well as snorkelling while others are the ideal locations for water sports. If you wish to spend your day with your family at a place where there is fun, leisure and also the opportunity to spend quality time, then the beaches in Aruba are the most suitable locations for you.

Some of the beaches like Boca Grandi and Boca Prince are not recommended for swimming due to the high tide levels, but that does not mean that those beaches can not be utilised for any other activity as well. Kitesurfing and windsurfing are some of the common sports on those beaches. If you are scared for your young children who are not experienced swimmers, then the problem is solved because of the baby beach which is characterised by shallow basins and calm water, therefore, even younger children who are scared of swimming in deep water can visit the baby beach.

Oranjestad

Oranjestad is the capital of Aruba and is one of the most exciting places to visit in the country. This is because the beautiful ancient architecture that is built by the Dutch is preserved in this city. The temperature in this city is moderate which is the ideal for you to walk around with your friends and family for a short walk exploring the pastel-coloured buildings. One of the significant attractions of the park is the Wilhemina park which is a bundle of excitement and adventures. The best time to visit the park is in June, September and October as the plants and flowers in the park are in full bloom and that sight of the plants is not to be missed. Very close to the Wilhemina park is the Aruba Historical Museum that can be accessed by walking for a few minutes.

The history museum comprises a collection of historical artifacts and a variety of ancient items that would revive the old world charm. It is rare to find such places that have preserved the items in their best condition in the present day as well. The King Wilhelm III tower and the Fort Zoutman are also some of the historical monuments that provide us an insight into the history of the place and some of the important figures in the history of that country, for instance, the tower has been built in the memory of King Wilhelm.

Arikok National Park

Another beautiful and entertaining tourist destination in Aruba is the Arikok national park which approximately covers 20 percent of the island. It consists of a variety of landscapes, caves, dunes and even the formation of particular rocks which is very unique and rare. One of the most common tourist attractions was the Natural Bridge at Anicouri which was formed by wave erosion. However, it later broke down but even today, there is a small natural bridge which is an ideal spot for a picnic.

If you visit the Arikok national park, the natural bridge is a must-visit. Other than this, there are a variety of species that can be found at the park. Species of lizards, snakes, and goats are very common here. Other than this, it should be noted that the park is situated in a rugged landscape which is not easily accessible, therefore, those who plan to visit should arrange a 4WD vehicle as a car would not be able to travel in this rugged landscape and you might not be able to visit this beautiful, scenic location. Come with your friends and family to double the adventure.
