We’ve always been jealous of Christian Bale. While we were running around screaming ‘I’m Batman’ a lot as kids, Christian Bale got to do it for real. Well, in a movie at least. When Christian Bale is given a role, he goes all out. He’ll either bulk up or shed the pounds where needed. A lot of other actors have praised him for his commitment to roles.
This does mean that it is tough to pinpoint exactly how much Christian Bale weighs at any given moment. For the filming of the Batman movies, he was said to weigh around 180lbs. However, he has weighed considerably less than this at various points in his career.
For example, when he filmed The Machinist, he went down to just 120lbs. For American Hustle, he went up to 228 lbs. The Machinist weight loss was particularly notable, as right after he finished filming, he had mere months to bulk up for the filming of the next Batman movie. Although, we’re sure that he loved eating to bulk up for that. By all accounts, to shed the pounds for The Machinist, he was consuming just 200 calories per day!

Christian Bale almost never became Batman! Actually, he almost never acted again. One of his earliest roles was in the much-forgotten Disney movie ‘Newsies’ (which did end up becoming a hit Broadway musical). Bale loathed the experience so much that he almost quit acting for good. Same for his role in Empire of the Sun. While this is one of his classic roles, he never really ‘felt’ it. We’re glad he continued!
Another Christian Bale movie that you may have forgotten about is Little Women, which is a shame. It isn’t too shabby of a movie. Although not quite Batman. It happened in the 90s, just as the internet was starting to hit its stride. As a result, Bale became one of the first ‘internet icons’, with countless fan sites dedicated to him. Some of those fans were a little bit crazy too, with many trying to get him cast in more films. Their actions probably didn’t help him in the slightest, but it is nice to know that the same things that we see on the internet nowadays were happening decades ago.

As far as we know, there is no rivalry between the two of them. Christian Bale missing out on that role meant that he was free for Batman anyway.
