Introduction

If you love the Dragon Ball franchise, you are probably immensely familiar with the character Goku. He’s the main protagonist, but do you know how tall he is supposed to be? How old is he? To fully grasp what the character should look like, these are important questions to ask!

Goku is meant to be 5 foot 9 inches (1.75 meters), which makes him a reasonably tall individual. This information is found in the Dragon Ball: Super Exciting Guides, which was released by Sueisha back in 2009. Since Dragon Ball involves a lot of combat, it’s interesting to learn about how tall the individual characters are, and compare them to each other.

In this article, we’re going to look at Goku’s height, age, and weight, and also that of a few other characters so you have a good sense of how he measures up!

How Tall Is Goku?

Goku is around 5 foot 9 inches, which means he’s close to the average height for an American man today – set at 5 foot 8 inches (1.73 meters). If you are an average-sized male, Goku might be an inch taller than you, but you’d find you were pretty similar overall.

Goku is one of the most important characters in Dragon Ball, and it’s likely that his height has added to his fighting prowess. However, it’s interesting that he is not a particularly tall individual, and yet is often shown to be taller than the other characters within the franchise. In many scenes, he appears as the tallest

You might be wondering how he compares with the other major characters in the show, as it can be hard to tell just by watching it. He’s taller than a lot of the others, so let’s check these out first, and then find out who outmatches him in terms of height.

Firstly, there’s Chiaotzu, who is a very small character, and only 4 foot 6 inches (1.38 meters). He has a child-like stature, but is still considered a formidable fighter, and his height doesn’t seem to be a major disadvantage to him.

Krillin comes next, at 5 feet (1.53 meters). He’s again a fairly short character, standing a whole 9 inches shorter than Goku, but he’s a powerful figure nonetheless, and combines his smaller stature with dedication and hard work.

Vegeta is another major character, and he stands at 5 foot 5 inches (1.65 meters), making him about 4 inches shorter than Goku. That doesn’t stop him from being a strong fighter, however, and when he was initially an enemy of the group, he was an imposing figure. Now, he’s a valuable asset to the team, even without exceptional height.

In terms of those taller than Goku, there’s Tien Shinhan, who stands at 6 foot 2 inches (1.87 meters), and Piccolo, who is an amazing 7 foot 5 inches (2.26 meters). These two characters are notable for their height, especially Piccolo, who presents an extremely strong and imposing figure in combat.

How Tall Is Goku’s Super Saiyan Form?

The Dragon Ball Wiki states that his Super Saiyan form is 9 foot 10 inches tall (2.99 meters), which is a phenomenal height. That means he’s almost twice as tall in this form, and would stand significantly taller than even the tallest human – who was Robert Wadlow, at 8 foot 11 inches (2.72 meters).

There’s no doubt that in this form, Goku is an immensely tall individual, who towers over everybody else in the show. In his normal form, however, Goku’s a fairly standard size, and probably wouldn’t particularly stand out for his height, even though he’s tall in the context of the show.

How Old Is Goku?

This depends on which part of the show you are watching, as it covers a wide range of ages. He is first discovered as an 11-year-old boy, by Bulma. During the 22nd Martial Arts Tournament, he is 15 years old, and is defeated by Tien.

By the time of the 23rd Martial Arts Tournament, Goku is 18, and it’s then that he marries Chi Chi.

In Dragon Ball Z, Goku is 5 years older, which would make him 23. He has a 5-year-old son by this stage (Gohan). He is 23 years old when he sacrifices himself in order to defeat Raditz, and he continues his training in the afterlife. He’s then resurrected, meaning that he remains physically 23 years old, even though chronologically, he becomes 24.

He then spends 3 years training, and is physically 26, but chronologically 27. This is resolved by his time training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, where he spends a full year, bringing both his physical and chronological age to 27 years old.

He then spends 7 years dead, and is eventually resurrected to defeat Majin Buu. At this stage, he’s 34 chronologically, but only 27 physically. The epilogue has a 10-year time jump, making him chronologically 44, but physically 37.

To add to the confusion, Saiyans age more slowly once they have reached their prime, to increase their fighting ability.

This trend continues throughout the franchise. At the start of Dragon Ball GT, Goku is physically 42, but chronologically 49, and then gets de-aged to 11 years old, while retaining his 49-year-old mind. He continues to age both physically and psychologically, becoming physically 13 and psychologically 51 by the end. In the epilogue, he would probably be psychologically around 150 or 151.

Finally, let’s look at Dragon Ball Super. This occurs in a 10-year time jump, starting when Goku is physically 31 but psychologically 38. By the end, he’s physically 32 and psychologically 39.

How Much Does Goku Weigh?

Goku is said to weigh about 140 lb (64 kg). It has been noted by fans that this is impossible for his height and muscle mass, even if he had almost no body fat. Some fans have suggested this is because he is a Saiyan.

Conclusion

Goku is about an inch taller than an average American man, which surprises some fans who are expecting a tall individual. His age varies throughout the franchise, sometimes dramatically, and his weight is exceptionally low for his given height.
