Where is Cleveland, Ohio, located on the US Map?

Ohio is in the Midwestern region of the United States. Cleveland is one of the largest cities in Ohio and is situated in the Northeastern area along the coast of Lake Erie. Cleveland sits at the Cuyahoga River’s mouth and is considered a significant Saint Lawrence Seaway Port.

You can travel along Lake Erie for over one hundred miles while visiting the Cleveland area. There are beaches and many opportunities to wine and dine on the water. It is just sixty miles from the Pennsylvania border and shares the maritime border with Canada.

Cleveland sits between two different snowbelts and is known for having some brutal winters with record snowfall. It can get very chilly in the winter season thanks to the lake effect winds coming off of Lake Erie. The summers are generally mild but do experience some pretty hot days.

How big is Cleveland? (Size and Population)

Cleveland is one of the biggest cities in the State of Ohio. It is just over seventy-seven square miles in size and is home to over 375,000 residents. However, it has been steadily on the decline in population over the past few decades. 

Cleveland is also densely populated and estimated to have over 5,000 people per square mile, vastly different from Columbus’s less populated capital city. In fact, back in 1950, Cleveland saw a record population of 914,000 people.

Is Cleveland a good place to live?

Like every big city in the United States, there are some great places to live, and others might not be so attractive. They have some great school districts in Cleveland, and it’s home to the Cleveland Clinic. So jobs in the medical field are in abundance.

There are plenty of Universities in Cleveland and other opportunities for getting a higher education. The cost of living is very reasonable, and the quality of life is notable. Cleveland residents are known to be polite and respectful, something you won’t find in other big cities like NYC.

If you love professional sports, there is no other city that honors the sports as Cleveland does! But it is also known for its entertainment industry and outdoor sports, such as ice skating, skiing, boating, biking, hiking, running, etc.

What are the best areas to live in Cleveland?

There are many areas that have an appeal, but if you want to live somewhere that has a little bit of everything and is considered one of the top places to live in Cleveland, then here are our top five picks:

  • Avon Lake – If you are looking to move to the Cleveland area, why not get as close to the lake as possible. Avon Lake sits on the edge of Lake Erie and is only thirty minutes from downtown. It has some of the lowest crime rates in the Cleveland area and currently holds the highest graduation rate from a public school, a whopping 98% of students graduate.  
  • Lakewood – It’s a hip area that attracts a lot of millennials and young families. If you are looking for the American dream with a two-car garage and a white picket fence, then Lakewood is where you want to call your home. It also houses some of the best schools in the area.
  • Highland Heights – This can be an expensive option, but that’s because the school districts are top-notch, and the location is a mere 20 minutes from downtown Cleveland. It’s considered one of the safest neighborhoods and hosts some of the most beautiful public parks.
  • Rocky River – Another excellent school district and place for families to live is in Rocky River. It caters to the outdoor enthusiasts being along the water where you can take some trails, check out different waterfalls, and provides one of the Cleveland area’s safest environments.
  • Beachwood – This trendy neighborhood is quickly becoming one of the most affluent suburbs of Cleveland. There are tons of great restaurants to choose from, and the shopping resources are in abundance. The homes come with a decent sized property and are designed by incredible architects.

What is Cleveland known for?

Besides all the big attractions we already mentioned, such as all the professional sports teams, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Cleveland Orchestra, and home to the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, this city boasts excitement in many different ways.

There is signature street food, like the Polish Boy, and horse-drawn carriages that will give you a tour of some of the oldest places in the historical district of Cleveland, including the area known as The Flats. It’s even home to some famous people, including Drew Carey.

And even though NYC is known for its holiday atmosphere, Cleveland has a lot to offer with all its festivities and places to visit, such as the original house from The Christmas Story. There are high-end boutiques and some of the best diners on the East Coast sitting in this glorious city.
