Premier Inn History
Overview
Premier Inn (see also Travelodge, Ibis) is the UK’s largest hotel brand with 72,000 rooms and 780 hotels. Its hotels operate in a variety of locations that include city centres, airports and suburbs. Premier Inn is a British Hotel chain and competes with the likes of Travelodge and Ibis. Whitebread formed the company in 1987 as Travel Inn. The first site to open was next to “The Watermill” Beefeater restaurant in Basildon. In 2004 Whitbread bought Premier Lodge for £536m which added 141 hotels to the portfolio and merged Travel Inn and Premier Lodge to form the current business under Premier Travel Inn. Later in 2007 the name was shortened to Premier Inn, which accounts for 70% of Whitbread’s earnings. Premier Travel Inn opened its 500th hotel in Hemel Hempstead in 2005.
Modern Premier Inn Hotels
In 2006 Premier Travel Inn began to launch a new bedroom design for the new hotels to eliminate the design variations between Travel Inn and Premier Lodge Hotels (until 2006 the rooms had remained a they had been before). In September 2007 Whitbread announced purchase of Golden Tulip UK which were later converted to Premier Inn Hotels. Premier Inn Hotels chain spans from Inverness in the north of Scotland to Helston, Cornwall in the south of England. Hotels vary in size with many smaller inns and large purpose-built city centre hotels. Although most Premier Inn hotels are newly built many of the inner-city Premier Inn hotels are housed within redeveloped office buildings which would otherwise be demolished.

Premier Inn London Kensington Hotel is located in the heart of London and a short walk from Earl’s court Tube Station. Premier Inn London King’s Cross
Premier Inn London King’s Cross hotel offers a fashionable bar and restaurant and neighbours both King’s Cross Railway and King’s Cross St Pancras Tube Station. This hotel is 25-minute tube journey from iconic Westminster and 30 mins walk from the famous Regent’s Park. Regent’s Park is home to the ZSL London Zoo.
