A lot of things in the Attack on Titan series are very large, and the Titans themselves – understandably – are pretty gargantuan. It stands to reason that anything called the “Colossal Titan” would be absolutely huge, but you might be wondering how big this character is in real terms.

The Colossal Titan is said to be around 197 feet (60 meters) tall. That’s astonishingly tall, and hard for most of us to really comprehend.

To put it in some context, FIFA’s laws on football say that a field from goal line to goal line should be at least 295 feet (98 meters). That means that the Colossal Titan would be approximately 2/3rds of a football field.

You probably now have some idea of just how huge this Titan truly is, but we’re going to explore this in more detail below.

How Tall Is The Colossal Titan?

One of the Nine Titans, the Colossal Titan is one of the main antagonists in the early Attack on Titan series, and its extraordinary size is one of its most notable features. It’s also known for emitting steam from its huge body, making it a dangerous opponent.

It has a listed height of 60 meters, which translates to around 197 feet tall, making it a truly massive foe. This is unsurprising, given its name, and the fact that it is tall enough to look over the Walls (the three large structures surrounding the remnants of Eldia).

Its huge size also gives it phenomenal strength, and it is capable of kicking whole houses into the air. To give you some sense of its height in terms of houses, a standard 2 story house would probably be around 20 feet (6.10) meters) tall. The Colossal Titan would be three times this height.

The Colossal Titan has an explosive transformation befitting its enormous size. The transformation alone was enough to knock cadets over the Wall, and in another instance, the transformation created a whole mushroom cloud of rubble and dust.

The Colossal Titan was also enormously destructive against the Marleyan ships; it simply stepped on these, destroying them with ease. It is notable that the Titan’s arms are far bigger than the rest of its body, which suggests that its legs may be weaker – but it still manages to destroy Wall Maria’s outer gate with just one kick.

All of this adds up to a truly formidable foe of epic proportions, especially when you take into account the steam production. Of course, the enormous size of the creature is somewhat offset by its slowness of movement, but it’s still obvious why this character was created to be a major antagonist in the early show.

It is worth noting that in the Attack on Titan movie, the Colossal Titan was depicted as even bigger. It was said to be taller than the Statue of Liberty, and some people place it at close to 400 feet (121 meters) tall.

How Old Is The Colossal Titan?

The Nine Titans were all brought into the world when Ymir Fritz died. Her spirit split into 9 pieces, and these formed the Nine Titans. Around 2,000 years have passed since her death, and the Titan powers have continued throughout that time.

It is thought for the first 1,700 years after Ymir Fritz’s death, the Colossal Titan was held by one of the warring Eldian houses (or possibly more than one). However, during the Great Titan War, it was taken by Marley.

In 843, Bertholdt Hoover is selected to take the power of the Titan, and he uses it to destroy a city. Within the story, the Titan first appears in 845, when it kicks a hole in the southern gate of Wall Maria, frightening the inhabitants and granting the Pure Titans entrance to the Shiganshina.

It reappears 5 years later, in 850, when it again damages a gate to let other Titans into the district to eat the humans. Here, Eren Yeager attacks the Titan, but Bertholdt uses the Titan’s steam as cover while he escapes.

The Titan continues as an antagonist for some time, but it’s very difficult to pinpoint an exact age for the creature, because it depends on how you measure this, and whether you think it begins with Ymir Fritz’s death, or whether you count it from Bertholdt Hoover’s acceptance of the power.

How Much Does The Colossal Titan Weigh?

There are no official weight measurements for the Colossal Titan, so we have no way to determine what it really weighs – but fans have come up with some interesting theories and calculations to give you some idea of just how heavy this creature could be.

It has become a particular point of interest because of how easily people seem to be able to move severed Titan heads, as well as pushing Titans over. This would be impossible with a human of that size. However, it has been suggested that Titans are less dense than humans, and that they become lighter when they die.

Some fans have suggested that a Titan around 50 meters tall could weigh something like 3100 lb (1406 kg). This is assuming that Titans have a density at around ¾ of human weight, which is just a guess – but seems a reasonable one given the dynamics in the show.

It’s notable that some of the feats in the show, such as kicking Titan heads, probably wouldn’t be possible for an average human based on these calculations, but since the characters are Eldians, they are particularly powerful, and may be more capable of this sort of thing.

Conclusion

The Colossal Titan is certainly a tall character, standing approximately 3 houses high. This makes it an imposing figure capable of taking down walls and threatening entire areas, as well as destroying ships. The creature’s age and weight are more difficult to calculate, but it is thought to be around 2,000 years old, and somewhere close to 3100 lb – a formidable foe indeed!
