Gilbert, Arizona is a young and thriving city located near Phoenix. While we can’t cover everything that a city like this has to offer, we can definitely cover some basics. Gilbert is easy to reach within Phoenix and is ranked as one of the best places to live in the U.S. There are some lovely neighborhoods to move to if you’re looking to move. If you’re planning on visiting, there is a full events calendar around Gilbert and an inclusive downtown district. 

If you’re planning on visiting, or even something bigger, like moving to Gilbert, here are five things about the city that are interesting and relevant. 

Where is Gilbert, AZ, located on the US Map?

Gilbert is located 17 miles southeast of Phoenix, Arizona, while still being in the city’s metropolitan area. It falls within Maricopa County, and is within easy reach of two airports; the Phoenix-Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (AZA). 

The large town is lauded for its friendly atmosphere and unique events. There is a strong public transportation system and getting around the city is easy. 

If you’re driving from Phoenix or Scottsdale, it’s about a 30-min drive. Gilbert is 15 minutes from Mesa, and about 2 hours from Tucson.

Gilbert has a population of about 272,000, and is expected to be 300,000 by 2030. The population has doubled every five years from 1980-2000! 

The median age of people in Gilbert is 33 years old with about 67% being under the age of 45. Most of the population belong to younger families focusing on planting roots in the suburbs. About 70% of them have some formal education, over 50% have a college degree. The populace is very hard-working, with a labor force rate of over 70%. 

It is a large metropolitan area that covers about 69 square miles, and is the 5th largest city in Arizona

With a median household income of close to $99, 0000, it has been called the “#1 Most Prosperous City in the U.S” by the Economic Innovation Group in 2017. According to Wallethub in the same year, it was named the “#1 Place to raise a family in Arizona”. In 2016, Gilbert was named the “#2 Safest City in the U.S” by the Law Street Media. 

Fueled by a strong economy, Gilbert is young and vibrant and seeing a thriving business market. Gilbert abounds in events and leisure sites, and their public-school districts are highly ranked. There’s also over 300 days of sunshine a year! 

With all of this in mind, Gilbert is actually a very good place to live, whether you’re looking to raise a family or settle down on your own. 

What are the best areas to live in Gilbert, AZ?

If you’re looking for places to live in Gilbert, Arizona, you can find some great neighborhoods and areas to settle down in. Most are very family-oriented and friendly, and are full of growing families and easy to reach amenities.  

First up is Stone Creek, and it’s ranked as one of the best places to live in Gilbert. It is located within E Guadalupe Rd and N Val Vista Drive. It falls into the district of the Gilbert Unified School District and is next to the largest park in Gilbert. As such, it’s ideal for families with children, and there is a freeway within easy access of the neighborhood. 

Seville is a luxurious neighborhood in S Recker Rd and E Happy Rd. It is near the Seville Country Club, which has a marvelous golf course and an Olympic-size swimming pool. Seville is still an excellent choice for married couples and families with children. 

Finley Farms is located on the east side of Gilbert, and it has large multiple bedroom homes perfect for its family-oriented atmosphere. Finley Farms elementary school is right within the community. 

Power Ranch is located a bit further from the heart of the city, but it still offers all of the amenities they can have in the city while still being comfortable. Power Ranch has an extensive trail network and is active and close-knit. 

Val Vista Lakes is a lovely waterfront neighborhood, and it is spacious enough to have multiple subdivisions. Val Vista Lakes also has a clubhouse and easy access to the multiple nature trails along with access to the water and views. 

What is Gilbert, AZ, known for? 

Gilbert is known as the “Hay Capital of the World” due to its farming and agriculture roots. The town was named after the man who owned the property of the original rail line that traveled through Phoenix and Florence. It was a major agriculture town until the late 1920s. In the 1970s, Gilbert acquired a 53 square mile tract of land to grow the community on and develop like the neighboring suburbs were beginning to do. 

Gilbert has a thoroughly supported Historical Society with events spanning monthly. Downtown Gilbert is also known as the “Heritage District”, and has a collection of over 30 restaurants and diverse and eclectic shopping centers. The Heritage District is also home to an established theater and historic museum, along with public art stations and events. The Heritage District is also home to Gilbert’s branch of Park University. 

The Farm at Agritopia is a community program and garden, built around narrow and cozy streets that encourage local intimacy. There are tours offered and a farmer’s market of the community garden. Local produce is on sale here, grown in the farm itself. 

Conclusion 

Gilbert is a young city with a young populace. It’s large enough to have the comforts of a bigger city but comfortable and welcoming. Gilbert is still well-connected to its history and its future with a strong Heritage District and a growing economy.
