If you want to succeed at pro basketball, then you need to be incredibly tall. Short players will never thrive in the NBA. Some players seem to tower over everybody else, though. Kevin Durant is one of them. So, how tall is Kevin Durant?
Kevin Durant stands at a lofty 6 feet, 10 inches tall. While there are several players in the NBA that are even taller than him, this is a rather sizable size, and it is partly due to his height that Kevin Durant has been able to dominate on the court for so long.
Let’s tell you a little bit about him, shall we?
How Tall is Kevin Durant?
Kevin Durant is 6 feet, 10 inches tall. However, he hasn’t always been billed at this height. In fact, for almost all of his career, he was billed at 6 feet, 9 inches. This was, supposedly, at the request of Kevin Durant, although we aren’t quite sure why he would want that.
In 2016, Kevin Durant claimed that he had been billed at the wrong height for almost a decade. He said that when he was measured, he was actually slouching. This didn’t really come as a surprise to many basketball fans. If you looked at Kevin Durant, then you would have known that he was clearly taller than players billed at 6 feet, 9 inches.
Kevin claims that he is actually 6 feet, 10 3/4 inches. This means that when he puts on his shoes, he stands at 7 feet tall, not bad for a basketball player. Sure, he is still nowhere near one of the tallest active players in the NBA, but he can hold his own at that height. If you add in his skill too, then you know that he is going to dominate whenever he is on the court. Although, we are sure that you have seen him play. You already know that part!
Is Kevin Durant The Tallest Player in the NBA?
No. He is nowhere near the tallest player in the NBA. Obviously, Kevin Durant is taller than us, and most likely you. However, basketball has always been a tall person’s sport. After all, you need to be able to reach the net and get those balls in (or perhaps stop your opponent from scoring). Sure, some short players have entered the business, and many of them have been incredibly skillful players. However, these are rare.
In the 2022/2023 season, these were the tallest players on any NBA roster:
- Boban Marjonovic (Houston Rockets) – 7 feet, 4 inches.
- Kristaps Porzingis (Washington Wizards) – 7 foot, 3 inches.
So, even with shoes, Kevin Durant is already a rather sizable amount of height away from both of these players. Those two aren’t even the tallest players to play basketball either.
Is Kevin Durant Above Average Height For The NBA?
While Kevin Durant is not the tallest player in the NBA, he is taller than the average basketball player.
At the start of the 2022/2023 basketball season, the average height in the NBA was 6 feet, 6.74 inches. So, Kevin Durant is a good three inches above this.
How Much Does Kevin Durant Weigh?
When you are this tall and this athletic, you are bound to have a decent amount of muscle on your body. As you can probably imagine, this does mean that Kevin Durant is going to weigh a lot more than the average man. Although, as we said, almost all of it is going to be muscle. It isn’t like he is walking around with a pot belly.
Kevin weighs 240 lbs, which is substantially above the average of 217 lbs in the league.
Kevin Durant: A Career
Kevin Durant’s career has been long and illustrious. We would be here forever if we told you everything about it. However, let’s give you a few of the highlights.
Kevin started his career, like most NBA players, with college basketball. He played for the Texas Longhorns, and it wasn’t long before he was attracting the attention of pretty much every NBA team. So much so that in 2007, he was the 2nd pick in the first round of the draft.
He originally played for the Seattle Supersonics who went on to become Oklahoma City Thunder. In his first season in the NBA, he picked up the Rookie of the Year Award. As you can imagine, this had many teams jealous that they weren’t able to score him as their pick during the draft.
After almost 10 years playing for Oklahoma City Thunder, with a lot of success under his belt, he was ready to move on. The next stop was The Golden State Warriors. Here, he attained his first championship and, multiple times, netted himself the finals MVP. Sadly, his career here wasn’t to last. By 2018, he suffered injury after injury, which left him a year out of the game.
Kevin finally returned to the court with the Brooklyn Nets in 2020. Although, with disappointment after disappointment, he requested he be sent to another team shortly after. He ended up with the Phoenix Suns. While his career is long past its peak, he has scored a bit for the Phoenix Suns and, at the time of writing, is the 13th-highest-scoring player in NBA history.
While we doubt that Kevin Durant is ever going to play as well as he did in his early days, we hope that he is going to be sticking around the NBA for an incredibly long time to come. It is always a true joy to witness him on the court.
Final Thoughts
Kevin Durant has been billed at numerous heights throughout his career. However, he has confirmed that his natural height is 6 feet, 10 inches. When he is on the court and wearing his shoes, he caps out at 7 feet. He isn’t the tallest player in the league, but the skill that he has displayed on the court for 15 years more than makes up for it.
