Have you ever been curious about how tall Superman is? This famous character has enthralled people across the globe with his physique and amazing physical prowess, but is he as much of a giant as he might seem?

According to DC Comics, Superman is 6 foot 3 inches (1.91 meters). Of course, his height has varied depending on the actors playing him over the years, and other sources offer different height estimates for him. Some guidebooks say that he is 6 foot 6 inches (1.98 meters) or even taller. The generally accepted height, though, is 6 foot 3.

We’ll be using this article to understand more about Superman’s height, age, and weight, plus a few interesting facts about how he compares with other superheroes.

DC Comics lists Superman and his alter ego Clark Kent as being 6 foot 3. That’s tall; to put it into context, the average American man is around 5 foot 8 inches (1.73 meters), so Superman stands at about 7 inches taller. It’s not surprising, given that he is meant to be a strong and intimidating person.

Superman is probably one of the most iconic characters ever created for a comic book, and his height is just one aspect of that. He sports a very notable look, with his blue and red outfit. His appearance has been tweaked and adjusted over the years, but has remained fairly consistent.

Superman’s height certainly adds to his appeal. He is a “tall, dark, and handsome” type of character, and it’s hard to imagine that he would be seen as threatening to criminals if he was a lot shorter.

Over the years, Superman has been portrayed by quite a few actors of varying heights. For example, Kirk Alyn, who played Superman in 1948, was only 6 foot 1 inch (1.85 meters). That’s not a bad height, but not quite as tall as the character is written to be.

George Reeves, who played Superman in the TV series, was also around 6 foot 1 inch, although the estimates vary and some sources suggest he was closer to 6 feet (1.83 meters).

Christopher Reeve, on the other hand, was 6 foot 4 inches (1.93 meters), making him the tallest actor to play Superman.

Superman has also been played by Dean Cain, who is 6 feet tall; Tom Welling, who is 6 foot 3 inches (1.91 meters); Brandon Routh, who is 6 foot 2 inches (1.88 meters); Henry Cavill, who is 6 foot 1 inch; and Tyler Hoechlin, who is 6 feet.

Most of the people who have played Superman have been tall, with Christopher Reeve being the tallest.

How Tall Is Superman Compared With Other Superheroes?

You might be wondering how Superman fits into the overall superhero world, and whether he’s taller than the other villains and heroes that populate this space. Of course, a lot of people are particularly interested in how he compares with Batman, who is often seen as a rival.

According to DC, Superman is one inch taller than Batman, as they list Batman as 6 foot 2 inches. Some people are surprised by this, and it has caused issues in some filming at points.

When Batman was played by Ben Affleck, who is 6 foot 4 inches (1.93 meters) and Superman was played by Henry Cavill, Superman was effectively 3 inches shorter than Batman. A lot of work needed to be done on camera angles to resolve this issue and make sure Superman didn’t look too short.

And compared with his nemesis, Lex Luthor, Superman also has about an inch of extra height. That’s not significant, but does give him the edge when it comes to looking threatening and powerful.

How Old Is Superman?

It’s hard to say exactly how old Superman is. He is always depicted as quite a young man, or at least in his prime, but it’s rare for his age to be explicitly stated. Some fans have worked hard to figure out the numbers, but even so, it’s difficult to pinpoint any age precisely.

In the comics, it seems likely that Superman is in his 20s, as Lois Lane is said to be 22 and he attended high school at the same time as her. It’s possible that he is somewhere between 25 and 30, although this isn’t absolutely certain.

There are jokes that Superman was born on February 29th and only ages once every 4 years. He does have a given birthday in the 1979 World of Krypton series, but it’s provided using Kryptonian time measurements (38 Worx 9998) and doesn’t give much information about his earthly age or birthday.

Throughout the series, there are hints and facts, but many of these contradict each other. For example, Clark Kent is implied to have been hired as a reporter directly out of college, which would place him in his early 20s – but the Rebirth Superman is older, married to Lois Lane, and has a child, which would suggest he is closer to 30.

This makes it essentially impossible to give Superman a fixed age, but he is unquestionably a perpetually youthful character, probably in his prime. Like many of the superheroes, he’s fairly ageless, and because he’s not human, it’s easy to believe that he doesn’t age normally.

How Much Does Superman Weigh?

According to DC Comics, Superman weighs 235 lb (107 kg). That is a little over the recommended weight band for his height, but it should be remembered that he is a very muscular individual.

Some fans believe that he should weigh a lot more than 235 lb, because he comes from a planet where being denser would be advantageous. Weights of around 500 lb (227 kg) are suggested, with some people saying he might weigh as much as 2 tons – but these estimates contradict the official sources and don’t have significant evidence to back them up.

Conclusion

As you can see, Superman is a tall individual, and slightly above the average weight for his height. There’s no way to determine how old he is, as no official sources answer this question, but he’s certainly in the prime of his life, and never appears to age.
