Where is Jersey City located on the U.S. Map?

You’ll find Jersey City situated overlooking the mouth of the Hudson River, in north-eastern New Jersey, across from New York City.

Jersey City is positioned on the peninsula between the Hudson and Hackensack rivers and is surrounded by water on almost all sides, meaning catching ferries and strolling along the picturesque Waterfront, which overlooks Manhattan Island, are part-and-parcel of life here.

Jersey City is located near Newark Bay, around a 30-minute drive from Newark International Airport, making it one of the best cities for transport links in and out of the state.

How big is Jersey City?

Believe it or not, Jersey City is pretty big – in fact, it’s the second-largest city in New Jersey after Newark and is the third-largest city in the New York Metropolitan area.

Considered to be the “sixth borough” of New York City due to its close proximity, Jersey City has seven neighborhoods: Bergen-Lafayette, The Heights, Greenville, Journal Square, West Side, Downtown and Country Village.

Jersey City spans the Bergen Neck peninsula, surrounded on the east by the Hudson River and surrounded on the west by the Hackensack River, and comprises around 15 square miles of land.

Is Jersey City a good place to live?

Jersey City is one of the greatest areas of the U.S. to live, work and relax. It offers the whole package from green leafy suburban streets laced with beautiful red brick houses and historical sites to the bohemian downtown areas adorned with craft breweries, artisan bakeries and organic supermarkets.

Jersey City offers a diverse and eclectic mix of charm and culture and is just a stone’s throw away from Manhattan, making it one of the most desirable areas to live for students and young families alike.

With an abundance of great things for locals to see and do throughout the year, as well as its fantastic public transport links, it’s easy to see why Jersey City is becoming the go-to destination to settle down for many people.

Where are the best areas to live in Jersey City?

Each neighbourhood in Jersey City has a unique and distinct personality. With seven districts to choose from in total, many New Yorkers are making a move to Jersey City thanks to its excellent transport links to Manhattan (and beyond) as well as the more affordable cost of living. But what’s the best neighborhood to live in?

Downtown

Gorgeous leafy streets laced with an incredible mix of architecture. A diverse and eclectic mix of trendy bars and five-star restaurants. The most breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline. Those are just a couple of the great reasons why Downtown Jersey City is becoming the go-to area to live.

Throw in the fact that it’s less than a 20-minute subway ride to Downtown Manhattan and you’ll understand why. Located to the west of Marin Boulevard, between Grove Street PATH station and Newark Avenue pedestrian plaza, Downtown Jersey City is a stunning area to live in and has quickly established itself as the epicentre of all things cool.

The Waterfront

Stretched along the Hudson River, the Waterfront offers spectacular views of the Lower Manhattan Skyline and the Statue of Liberty. Home to a picturesque promenade that features an array of parks, gyms and recreational areas, the Waterfront is the perfect area for young families with children as it’s super safe, with low crime rates, and is home to several highly ranked schools and colleges.

The Heights

Nestled away in the northern part of the city is The Heights. Home to a variety of restaurants, vegan-friendly cafes and cocktail bars, this area is considered to be one of the most sought-after places to live in Jersey City. Boasting scenic gardens, play areas and with a bustling creative district, this suburban area is great for transport links as well as its incredible sense of community spirit.
