Mel Gibson is an immensely famous actor, but his height has sparked a lot of curiosity and disagreement among his fans, and people seem unable to agree on how tall he is. Some fans claim he’s much shorter than the official records say.

Most sources place Mel Gibson at about 5 foot 9 ½ inches (1.77 meters), although others round up to 5 foot 10 inches (1.78 meters). The discussion about his height has been going on throughout his career, with constant disagreements about whether he’s 5 foot 7 inches (1.70 meters), 5 foot 8 inches (1.73 meters), or over 5 foot 9 inches. The general consensus has landed on around 5 foot 9.

If you’re feeling confused and fascinated by the controversy surrounding his height, don’t worry – we’re going to explore it in more detail and figure out what’s going on!

It is generally agreed that Mel Gibson is somewhere around 5 foot 9 inches, although you will see many other height estimates out there. There are even some wild claims that he’s really only about 5 foot 4 inches (1.63 meters) and the studios are exaggerating his height to make him seem a more desirable and attractive person.

Interestingly, Mel Gibson is amused by all the controversy surrounding his height, and has had no qualms about admitting to wearing lifts in movies to make himself look taller. His stature was a bit of a problem in the film The Year Of Living Dangerously, because he was filming alongside Sigourney Weaver, who is 5 foot 11 inches (1.80 meters).

He openly says that he had to wear lifts in this movie to put himself on a level with Weaver, and she has remarked in interviews how secure and comfortable he was with his height. He is not concerned about being around 5 foot 9 inches.

It should also be noted that the sources claiming he’s only around 5 foot 4 are almost certainly inaccurate. Although wearing lifts and using camera angles can add a few inches to a person’s height, it would be almost impossible to make a 5 foot 4 person look the same height as a 5 foot 11 person using these techniques.

At times, Mel Gibson has attempted to end the discussions about his height, and he even went as far as to take off his shoes to demonstrate the lack of lifts on the Michael Parkinson chat show.

Other actors have made comments about Mel Gibson being short, including one who claims he lost out on a role because he was too much taller than Mel Gibson and the director didn’t like it.

John Phillip Law talked about filming alongside Mel Gibson in Attack Force Z and said that tricks were being used to make Mel Gibson taller, and suggested that Gibson was sensitive about his height. However, this seems unlikely given how many sources have claimed Mel Gibson is confident and open about his height.

Interestingly, Mel Gibson was named the “Sexiest Man Alive” by People in 1985, and he was the first person to receive this accolade. This demonstrates that no matter what the controversy about his height might suggest, people find him an enormously attractive individual. He is famous for a lot of roles, and has enjoyed long-standing recognition, although not without criticism.

How Old Is Mel Gibson?

Mel Gibson is now 67 years old. He was born in 1956, in New York, but moved to Australia when he was 12. He began acting in 1976, in The Sullivans (an Australian TV series). His breakthrough role was in Mad Max, which came out in 1979. The film did exceptionally well and brought Mel Gibson international recognition.

He continued to act in many different shows and appeared on the stage. He was in Attack Force Z, and by the time this film was released in 1982, he was far better known than he was during the filming. He quickly earned a reputation for being a versatile and skilled actor.

Mad Max 2 was also released in 1982, and became Mel Gibson’s first hit in America. He played in several other movies, took a year hiatus, and then reappeared in Mad Max Beyond Thunderstorm in 1985.

His first American film, The River, came out in 1984, and he continued to appear in many diverse roles. However, some controversies arose in the 1990s and early 2000s, related to homophobia, drunk driving, and racism, as well as domestic violence. His divorce, in 2011, involved the highest settlement in Hollywood history.

The result of all the controversy and backlash was that the actor was blacklisted by Hollywood for close to 10 years.

His return was supported by other actors in 2014, and in 2016, his Hacksaw Ridge film got six Academy Award nominations, and the doors of Hollywood reopened. He has attributed his past misbehavior to alcoholism, although some fans remain dissatisfied with his approach to it.

Directors have since commented that Mel Gibson is a pleasure to work with and there’s no questioning his dedication on set. He has also donated a large amount of money to the El Mirador Basin project, which is aimed at protecting virgin rainforest in Central America.

He has been involved in some other philanthropic projects, including Angels at Risk, which focuses on preventing drug and alcohol abuse among teenagers. He has given millions to providing medical treatment to children across the world.

How Much Does Mel Gibson Weigh?

Mel Gibson’s weight is not officially listed anywhere, leading to varied estimates. He is often said to be around 216 lb (98 kg), although others have placed the estimate at 180 lb (81 kg).

Conclusion

As you can see, Mel Gibson is probably around 5 foot 9 inches, although some people state that he’s shorter than this. Either way, he’s not far from the height of the average American man, and is known for his skill as an actor – in spite of a somewhat rocky history at times.
