Patrick Swayze was around 5 foot 10 (1.78 meters), although estimates do vary somewhat, perhaps due to measurements being taken at different stages of his career. Some sources swear he was not an inch under 5 foot 11, while others say he was only 5 foot 9.

Patrick Swayze himself said that he was 5 foot 11, in the book “The Time Of My Life.” However, other actors claimed he was shorter, so it’s difficult to know for sure. There is a tendency to exaggerate heights to make an actor seem more attractive, so there isn’t really a way to find out how tall he was for sure.

Regardless, he was clearly a reasonably tall individual, a little over the average height for an American man, which is about 5 foot 8 inches (1.73 meters). The average height for a male actor is about 5 foot 10, meaning that Patrick Swayze was close to it, or just a little below or above.

It doesn’t seem to have mattered to most of his fans either way. Patrick Swayze was called the Sexist Man Alive by People magazine, and he was known for being an immensely attractive individual. He often took the role of a tough but romantic and funny character.

A lot of people fell in love with him in movies like Dirty Dancing and Donnie Darko.

How Old Was Patrick Swayze?

Patrick Swayze died when he was just 57 years old, as the result of pancreatic cancer. Some people have linked this to him being a heavy smoker; he said at one point that he smoked 60 cigarettes a day, and admitted that they might have something to do with the cancer.

However, he continued to smoke, even while being treated for cancer. He died just 20 months after getting his diagnosis, despite initial reports that he was responding well to the treatments.

He did have a long and successful career prior to this point.

When Did Patrick Swayze Start Acting?

Patrick Swayze started acting in a show called Disney on Parade, which was run by the Disney Theatrical Group. He performed as a dancer. Next, he took on the role of Danny Zuko in the Broadway production of Grease, serving as a replacement cast member.

His first film appearance was in 1979, in Skatetown U.S.A., where he played a character called Ace. He continued to do well as a dancer, although he wasn’t really known in the film industry until after he played in The Outsiders, in 1983.

He appeared in a few other roles, and then in 1985, acted in a miniseries called North and South, which focused on the American Civil War. Just two years later, he starred in Dirty Dancing, which was intended to be a low-budget one-week release movie, but which became a surprising hit.

He co-composed and sang the song “She’s Like The Wind” for the movie, which went on to become a top-10 hit. The movie allowed Patrick Swayze to act, dance, and sing, showcasing his various talents, which may be why it was so popular. It became the first movie to sell over 1 million copies on video.

The demand for Patrick Swayze as an actor went up considerably after this film, and he starred in several other films. In 1997, he was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

He was badly injured in 1997, and it took him quite a while to recover. However, he continued filming, and in 2001, he appeared in Donnie Darko. In 2006, he was in the West End musical Guys and Dolls, and his final role was in the A&E drama The Beast.

What Killed Patrick Swayze?

Patrick Swayze’s cancer diagnosis came just after they had filmed the pilot episode of The Beast, but he continued with filming and saw the show through its single season. Many people admired his commitment to his acting career, and hoped very much that the actor would recover.

He raised money for cancer in several Stand Up to Cancer appearances, and spent time talking to other cancer patients. He initially denied claims by the tabloids that he was very ill, but he was hospitalized in 2009 with pneumonia, and he died later that year as a result of the cancer spreading.

How Much Did Patrick Swayze Weigh?

In the book “The Time of My Life,” Patrick Swayze claims to weigh about 180 lb (82 kg), although there are some other estimates out there – probably taken from different points in his career. Most fall close to his own estimate, although some drop as low as 160 lb (73 kg).

Both of these estimates would be within the recommended weight range for a man of his height. Patrick Swayze was in excellent shape throughout his life, as a dancer and a martial artist, and regularly exercised. This was very clear in movies like Road House, where you can see how muscular he was.

Conclusion

Patrick Swayze was probably close to the average height for a male actor, at somewhere around 5 foot 10 inches. He was considered one of the sexiest actors of his time, and gained a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as a result of his contributions to the world of film. There’s no doubt that this actor is remembered with great admiration.
