Is the Federated States of Micronesia a part of the US?

The aftermath of the Second World War had several countries’ economies and infrastructure completely in shambles. So much that their chances of getting back on their feet were completely ruined. The Federated States of Micronesia became a part of the UN’s Strategic Trust Territory which puts them under the administration of the US. Being a sovereign nation, they have complete diplomatic relations with the US and a highly cooperative relationship. The government maintains its own foreign relations and conducts business all under the amended compact. The US, however, is completely responsible for and has full authority for the security and defense of the Federated States of Micronesia.

Are Micronesians US citizens?

People of the Federated State of Micronesia are not considered to be Americans but when traveling to the US, these people do not need a visa. This allows a lot of Micronesians to live, study and work in the United States.  

 Is Palau a part of the Federated States of Micronesia?

 Contrary to popular belief, Palau is actually a different country altogether which is also a part of Oceania in the Pacific. The Federated States of Micronesia is often confused because The Republic of Palau lies right beside it and the Republic of Marshall Islands lies towards the east, therefore,  the territories of all three are often confused by the foreigners. Almost all of the countries in Oceania are made up of several islands rather than just one or two. Similarly, the Federated States of Micronesia is made up of a total of 607 small islands in the Western Pacific.

A federation is a union of provinces or countries that operates under a central federal government. Their sovereign powers are divided between the central federal government and the federated states themselves. The flag of the Federated States of Micronesia uses two light colors; light blue and white. The light blue makes up for the background of the flag whereas white is incorporated in the four five-pointed stars that are present on the flag in a diamond pattern.

The flag of the Federated States of Micronesia is rather simple and represents the country. The light blue is a representation of the Pacific Ocean and four stars symbolize the four states of the country i.e. Chuuk, Yap, Kosrae and Pohnpei.

The estimated population of the Federated States of Micronesia is 104,468 with the majority of it being Christians and belonging to several different ethnic groups. About 48.8% of the population is Chuukese.

Every country needs one language that unites them all, in the case of the Federated States of Micronesia, that language is English. Besides English, several Austronesian languages are spoken with Chuukese having the highest number of speakers and Satawalese having the lowest, endangering the language.
