The west coast of the United States is a mixture of excellent cities, diverse wildlife, differing climates, and beautiful scenery. There are thirteen states in the western part of the US. And these states are all incredibly different and have a combined population of almost 79 million people.

Which states are in the Western Region of US?

California

People often refer to California as the Sunshine State, and for a good reason, the southern part of the state has gorgeous weather all year round. The home of Hollywood, Silicon Valley, and the notorious laid-back California lifestyle.

California is home to fantastic beaches, rugged coastline, and some of America’s leading cities. These include Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco – all global tourism and economic hubs.

Hawaii

Hawaii is in the heart of the pacific ocean, and visitors know Haiwai for the incredible nature and scenery. It’s home to some of the world’s best surfing spots and finest hiking trails.

The capital city is Honolulu, a vibrant multicultural city with a cosmopolitan vibe.

Nevada

Nevada is predominantly a desert state that’s home to stunning scenery and weather. Nevada’s most famous place is the city of Las Vegas – the global hub of entertainment and partying.

Nevada has other great attractions, such as the Hoover Dam, but it’s close to the Grand Canyon and its spectacular views.

Arizona

Arizona is a desert state in the west of the US. Visitors know the state because of Phoenix, the famous capital city, home to great weather, attractions, and beautiful nature.

Arizona is also home to the Grand Canyon National Park – one of the world’s most famous natural attractions.

Colorado

Colorado is a popular tourist destination in the US. It is home to some of the country’s best mountain ranges and ski-sports.

Visitors love Denver, the state’s capital, which offers excellent views, hiking trails, and an array of top-class attractions.

Montana

Montana is the fourth-largest state in America, but it remains relatively unknown to tourists. It is home to incredible glacial national parks and mountains. The Glacier National Park in the Rocky Mountains is stunning, offering incredible viewpoints and hiking trails.

The state’s capital is Helena, but the largest city is Billings, with 109,577 citizens living there.

Idaho

People often nickname Idaho ‘The Gem State’ because of the diverse range of gems that people have found there. The state offers fantastic outdoor scenery with a lavish outdoor lifestyle.

The capital city is Boise City, with a population of around 227,000; it remains the state’s vibrant heart.

Utah

Utah is one of the most sparsely populated states in the US. It is home to many incredible national parks and offers visitors supreme outdoor activities.

The best attractions include Zion National Park and Monument Valley. Salt Lake City is the state’s capital and offers visitors great attractions like Liberty Park and Temple Square.

New Mexico 

New Mexico is often referred to as ‘The Land of Enchantment’ because of the vast wildlife, history, and culture. The state is home to some of the most majestic landscapes in the whole of the US.

The capital city is Alburquerque, home to various excellent attractions, including hiking spots, great restaurants, cafes, and bars.

Alaska

Alaska is the largest state in the whole of the US. The state is notorious for brutally cold weather and the variety of natural wonders, including mountains, glaciers, lakes, and incredible waterways.

The state’s capital is Juneau, a small city with only 31,000 people.

Oregon

Oregon is a beautiful state with an array of natural attractions, and it remains one of the most sparse populations of any US state. But visitors love to visit Hells Canyon, the deepest River Gorge in the USA.

The state’s capital is Portland, a city known for the hipster culture, great music scene, and artistic culture.

Washington 

Washington is famous for being the only state to be named after an American president. The state has some fantastic national parks, and visitors love the stunning rugged coastline throughout the state.

It is home to Seattle, one of the most vibrant cities in the United States. Seattle is famous for its markets, the music scene, and excellent coffee culture.

Wyoming

Wyoming is famous for some of the best national parks in the country. The state is home to Yellowstone, one of the world’s most-visited national parks. Visitors also love Devils Tower – a stunning rock formation that is the US’s first national monument.

The state is nicknamed ‘The Equality State’ due to being the first state in the US to allow women to vote.

The Grand Canyon is over 6 million years old – and remains some of the most awe-inspiring views in the world. Millions of tourists visit every year; it remains a prevalent tourist spot.

Yosemite National Park

Yosemite is well known for its fabulous array of waterfalls and magnificent hiking spots. It is one of the world’s most famous national parks.

Golden Gate Bridge

When people think of San Francisco, they always think of the city’s incredible bridge. This iconic bridge is one of the world’s most famous landmarks, you should take the chance to walk or cycle across it!

Joshua Tree National Park

The Joshua Tree National Park is one of California’s most famous national parks. It is home to incredible rugged scenery and majestic hiking trails. It gets sweltering during the summer months!

Hollywood

The center of the world’s media industry, Hollywood attracts tens of millions of visitors per year. Popular attractions include Universal Studios – a great family day out. Also, the notorious Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Griffith Observatory

The Griffith Observatory is a top attraction in the west of the United States. It is home to spellbinding views of the vast city of Los Angeles, and you are very close to the iconic Hollywood Sign.

Los Angeles, California

Los Angeles is the biggest city in the United States. Home to the world-famous Southern California lifestyle, Los Angeles has excellent attractions such as Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Hollywood, and Malibu.

Las Vegas, Nevada

Las Vegas is home to the world’s most outstanding entertainment. Visitors love the legendary Las Vegas Strip, and the nightly entertainment within it – the city does not sleep, and you can party and gamble till sunrise.

San Francisco, California

People worldwide know San Francisco for the incredible views of the city from the numerous hills. It is a city synonymous with Hollywood movies and offers top-class attractions like Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.

Denver, Colorado 

Denver is a top-rated tourist destination. It offers some of the best mountain ranges in the US and offers excellent outdoor activities. Visitors love the range of excellent cafes and cosmopolitan vibe.

San Diego, California

San Diego is on the southern tip of California. The city has a fantastic relaxed vibe, excellent zoos, museums, and a great escape from Los Angeles’s hustle. And it has incredible beaches and coastal viewpoints.

Honolulu, Hawaii

The capital of Hawaii is a fantastic city. It has a long history and a very multicultural vibe. You’ll find excellent food from all over the planet. And better still, some of the best hikes, surfing spots, and beaches surround the city.
